Since its inauguration in 2013, the Nami Island International Picture Book Illustration Concours (NAMI CONCOURS) has been opening countless doors to the imagination. As the official sponsor of the Hans Christian Andersen Award—the “Nobel Prize of Picture Books”—Nami Island provides a global platform for artists around the world to showcase their unique artistic visions. Rooted in founding philosophy, the NAMI CONCOURS continues to push the boundaries and expand the possibilities of picture books.
- Supporting Sustainable Artistic Practice: NAMI CONCOURS is open to artists of all nationalities and backgrounds without restriction. By offering open themes, it allows artists to express their imagination freely and without limits.
- Judging Philosophy: Submissions are evaluated based on five core principles: empathy, universality, creativity, diversity, and inspiration. Guided by these values, an international jury carefully selects works that redefine the new potential of picture books.
- Global Growth: NAMI CONCOURS began in 2013 with participants from 42 countries and has grown impressively with each edition. In 2026, nearly 2,000 artists from 90 countries are taking part, cementing its status as one of the world’s three leading international illustration contests.
