《우유도 설탕도 없이 오직 커피만》은 전쟁으로 중단된 사랑의 이야기로, 전쟁에 징집된 남자와 조국을 떠나 피신한 여자 친구라는 두 젊은 연인의 시점에서 전개된다. 일러스트레이션 속 별 마크는 시각적·서사적 반복 주제 역할을 하며, 흑백에 가까운 이 작품에서 유일한 색채 포인트가 된다.
